Alexandrite is the rarest colored gemstone on earth. It changes color and it can be observed under certain lighting conditions, typically under daylight and incandescent lighting. Depending on the amount of light as well as the angle of the stone, it can display colors from green, purple, red, orange, and yellow. Green is more prevalent in daylight with a purple-reddish tone in another lighting. This gemstone is more costly than diamonds, typically costing three times as much for the same size stone.
